Vision Screenings
Your child's ability to see is very important to the learning process. A vision test is required prior to school entry. Appointments are available in each county for free vision screening. In cooperation with your local school district, vision testing is offered through your child's school years to include between ages 3-5, and grades 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9.
Many children enter school with vision problems. Children usually do not know that they see differently. Early identification of an eye problem is important.

FREE HEARING TESTING
Hearing Screenings
Your child's ability to hear is also very important to the learning process. A hearing test is required prior to school entry. Appointments are available in each county for free hearing screening. FREE Hearing Screening is available for all children 6 months of age to 18 years of age.
In cooperation with your local school district, hearing testing is offered through your child’s school years to include once between the ages of 3-5, and grades kindergarten, 2 and 4. Many children may be unaware that they hear differently from their peers. Early identification of hearing loss can alleviate speech/language delays, social/emotional delays, academic delays, and psychological delays.

FREE DENTAL ASSESSMENTS
Kindergarten Dental Assessments
The Michigan Kindergarten Oral Health Assessment (KOHA) Program helps ensure that children start school healthy and ready to succeed. A Registered Dental Hygienist from HDNW School Oral Health Services division will visit your child’s school and provide your child the FREE oral health assessment to fulfill the KOHA requirement. School screening events may occur in the Spring or Summer prior to Kindergarten enrollment or in the Fall by November 1st while your child is enrolled in Kindergarten. Parents or guardians may also fulfill the KOHA requirement by turning in a dental note to their child’s school from their dentist stating their child has established care and received a dental exam or assessment within no greater than 6 months prior of Kindergarten enrollment.
