Campground Inspections

Keeping Campgrounds Safe

When you visit campgrounds for that next outdoor adventure, rest assured that HDNW helps keep them safe and clean. We follow guidelines established by the Michigan Public Health Code when inspecting campgrounds, which is part of how owners obtain the required license from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE). Once the campground is up and running, we do annual inspections for permanent campground facilities. We also issue temporary campground licenses for the locations which operate for less than two weeks.

Our inspections support licenses that help achieve the following goals:

  • Eliminate public health conditions or hazards that could lead to injury, illness, or death
  • Minimize public health conditions that could pose a nuisance
  • Increase operator awareness and understanding of EGLE rule changes
  • Facilitate working relationships between operators and EGLE

Our goal is to ensure everyone has a wonderful camping experience that is safe and enjoyable in Northwest Michigan.
