About Us

Since 1930, the Health Department of Northwest Michigan has been proudly serving the residents of Antrim, Charlevoix, Emmet, and Otsego counties by promoting health, preventing disease, and prolonging life. We achieve this through education, operating health and dental clinics, protecting the environment, fostering partnerships, and innovation.

We are community members serving community members. Our staff—the agency’s greatest asset—strives for excellence each day.

Board of Health

HDNW is organized as a district health department for the counties of Antrim, Charlevoix, Emmet, and Otsego. District health departments are organized by local County Boards of Commissioners and, in accordance to Act 368 of the Public Acts of 1978, our Board of Health is comprised of two members from each of the four county's Board of Commissioners. These eight individuals meet monthly to review and govern Health Department programs, budget, and expenditures; to adopt regulations; to learn everything possible about local health problems, and to participate in finding solutions for those problems.

The Board of Health employs the Medical Director and Health Officer, who direct the agency staff. Citizens may contact the Board members through the emails listed below.

Board of Health meetings are open to the public. The Board meets at 10:00 am the first Tuesday of the month. The location is listed on the agenda found within the Board of Health Center below.
