New Horizons Teen Parent Program


The New Horizons Teen Parent Program is designed to provide education support and access to resources for pregnant teens and their infants. A trained public health registered nurse provides prenatal education and support to pregnant teens who choose to complete their high school education at this Charlevoix-Emmet Intermediate School District program located in Boyne City.

Two options available through New Horizons:

1. Students enroll as full-time seat waiver students and work on their coursework at home. Home tutoring visits and tutoring support during Tuesdays at New Horizons day. Parenting home visits are offered. Summer school/year round semester courses to work on at times convenient to their daily schedule.
2. Eligible students may attend their home district high school, charter school at alternative education school. With the home school permission, a student may attend New Horizons on Tuesdays for parenting support.
Available services through New Horizons, include:

› Transportation to and from school or home
› Free breakfast and lunch for both student and child
› Coursework tutoring support
› Women infant children (WIC) services
› Counseling services
› Parenting educational tips
› On site nursery
› College or trade school career exploration opportunities
› Child birth education
› Socialization with other teen parents

Students must be under 20 years of age by September 1 of the school year to be eligible.
