The Health Insurance Marketplace is a federal website, where those without affordable health insurance may learn about available insurance plans, and select coverage from a list of options. The Health Department is here to help you understand the Health Insurance Marketplace, and also to help you get started with your enrollment. Even if you currently have insurance coverage, the Marketplace may offer an alternative, and we're here to help answer questions.

Healthy Kids provides free health insurance coverage for pregnant women and children ages 0-19. Coverage can include doctor visits, dental and vision services, lab fees, prescriptions, hospital expenses, and any other services normally covered by Medicaid. The yearly income allowance for Healthy Kids is as follows:

For pregnant women and infants up to their 1st birthday:

  • $23,673/year for 1 person
  • $32,097/year for family of 2
  • $40,521/year for family of 3
  • $48,945/year for family of 4
  • $57,369/year for family of 5
  • $65,793/year for family of 6
  • $74,217/year for family of 7
  • $82,641/year for family of 8

For children age 1 to 19:
  • $19,424/year for 1 person
  • $26,336/year for family of 2
  • $33,248/year for family of 3
  • ;$40,160/year for family of 4
  • $47,072/year for family of 5
  • $53,984/year for family of 6
  • $60,896/year for family of 7
  • $67,808/year for family of 8

MIChild provides health insurance coverage for uninsured children ages 0-19. Doctor visits, immunizations, prescriptions, dental, vision, and hospital care are all covered. The cost is $10.00 per family per month. Call 1-800-432-4121 for more information, or visit the MDHHS MIChild Website.

Yearly family income limits for eligibility are as follows:

  • $25,737/year for 1 person
  •  $34,895/year for family of 2
  •  $44,054/year for family of 3
  •  $53,212/year for family of 4
  •  $62,370/year for family of 5
  •  $71,529/year for family of 6
  •  $80,687/year for family of 7
  •  $89,846/year for family of 8

Healthy Michigan Plan covers people who are:

  • Ages 19-64
  • Not currently enrolled in Medicaid or Medicare
  • Within income criteria:
  • $16,146/year for 1 person
  • $21,892/year for family of 2
  • $27,637/year for family of 3
  • $33,383/year for family of 4
  • $39,129/year for family of 5
  • $44,874/year for family of 6
  • $50,620/year for family of 7
  • $56,365/year for family of 8

The Healthy Michigan Plan includes the following Essential Health Benefits:
  • Doctor office visits and outpatient services
  • Emergency services
  • Hospitalization
  • Home Help & Personal Care services
  • Maternity and newborn care
  • Mental health and substance abuse
  • Prescription drugs
  • Rehabilitative services
  • Dental and vision
  • Laboratory
  • Preventive and wellness services and chronic disease management

Premiums for the Healthy Michigan Plan are different for each family, based on income. For some families coverage may be free, while others pay a small monthly amount.
