Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19)

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention is closely monitoring an outbreak of respiratory disease caused by a novel (new) coronavirus that was first detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China and which continues to expand. On February 11, 2020, the World Health Organization named this Coronavirus Disease 2019 (abbreviated "COVID-19"). The Health Department of Northwest Michigan is actively involved in responding to this outbreak through calls with the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, maintaining communication with local medical providers to provide up to date information, monitoring all individuals based on risk exposure, and keeping our community informed.

Please note: As the number of cases grows rapidly and the expansion of labs doing testing, MDHHS is only able to update their website with case counts once per day. With widespread testing, the flow of information is also coming from multiple sources, including private labs that are not part of the MDHHS database, therefore we may know of a local case before the state is able to include it in their counts. Given that it is our mission to ensure the health of our communities, we feel that it is important to share these results promptly whenever feasible.
