OCTOBER 24, 2012 – Anyone with a stake in the wellbeing of Emmet or Charlevoix County is invited to participate in two interactive, community-wide priority-setting sessions. Participants will review data collected in the past 12 months by the Health Committee of the Human Services Coordinating Body of Charlevoix and Emmet Counties.
The Emmet County meeting takes place on Monday, October 29 from 6-9 pm at the Health Department of Northwest Michigan's Harbor Springs/Petoskey office, located at 3434 M-119 in Harbor Springs. The Charlevoix County meeting takes place on Wednesday, November 7 from 6-9pm at the Charlevoix Public Library. There is no charge to attend either meeting, and light refreshments will be served. All are welcome, but space is limited. Please RSVP at firstname.lastname@example.org.
“Community members and representatives from organizations from all over Charlevoix and Emmet counties have participated in surveys and focus groups over the last 12 months,” said Therese Green, Director of Wellness Services and Community Relations and Chair of the Health Committee. “Now it's time for the community to come together and determine the priorities we'll work to impact over the next two to three years. True community can only be built by local residents deciding what their local issues are, agreeing they have the power to decide how to address them, and then becoming the key motivators in implementing the solution."
Linda Yaroch, Health Officer for the Health Department of Northwest Michigan, says community involvement in the process is crucial. “Once we've selected two or three top priorities, we'll be organizing an Impact Council for each to develop a Strategic Action Plan,” she said. “Working together, we can make lasting improvements that residents or organizations could never make individually.”
The priority-setting meetings are part of a community health assessment framework the Health Department of Northwest Michigan is facilitating, in partnership with Charlevoix Area Hospital, McLaren Northern Michigan, Northern Health Plan and Otsego Memorial Hospital, across a seven-county region. Similar meetings are planned Cheboygan, Montmorency and Presque Isle counties. For additional information, please contact Jane Sundmacher at (231) 347-5041 or email@example.com.
The Health Department of Northwest Michigan is mandated by the Michigan Public Health Code to promote wellness, prevent disease, provide quality healthcare, address health problems of vulnerable populations, and protect the environment for the residents and visitors of Antrim, Charlevoix, Emmet, and Otsego counties.
