“Becoming a Love & Logic Parent” program coming to Mancelona

“Becoming a Love & Logic Parent,” designed to help parents find answers and actions for difficult moments during child-rearing, will be offered Mondays March 10 through April 14, from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM at the Mancelona Family Resource Center. Cindy Garwood, Prevention Specialist with the Health Department of Northwest Michigan, and Debbie Blair, Family Mentor with Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District, encourage all parents to attend. Registration is required. There is no charge for the course and TBA ISD will cover the cost of the participant handbook for parents in need who have children up to five years old; participant handbook is $10.

Over the course of five weeks, parents will learn:

“Many moms and dads say they just don’t get the same results with the parenting techniques they were raised with,” said Garwood. “And there are so many different parenting philosophies out there it can be confusing for parents to know the best ways to raise respectful and responsible kids.”

The “Love and Logic” program teaches parents how to hold their kids accountable, she said. “The methods we’ll discuss causes the child to see his/her parent as the ‘good guy’ and the bad decisions they make as the ‘bad guy.’ It’s a great way to develop a child’s inner voice and build up resistance to peer pressure.”

The Health Department of Northwest Michigan is mandated by the Michigan Public Health Code to promote wellness, prevent disease, provide quality healthcare, address health problems of vulnerable populations, and protect the environment for the residents and visitors of Antrim, Charlevoix, Emmet, and Otsego counties.
