Plan First! family planning coverage accepted at Health Department locations

Free family planning services are available at Health Department offices for women age 19 to 44 who qualify for the Plan First! program. Plan First! coverage includes office visits for family planning-related services, prescriptions for birth control, birth control supplies, and lab tests.

“Family planning services are so important to families,” said Patricia Fralick, Director of Family & Community Health at the Health Department of Northwest Michigan. “Our goal is for every woman to plan and prepare for pregnancy and then to be sure she gets prenatal care. When couples are ready emotionally and financially for children, everyone benefits, from the child and family to the greater community.”

Plan First! coverage is open to Michigan residents age 19 through 44 who:

Health Department family planning services are more than just birth control, Fralick said. “Our family planning visits include screening for serious health problems, which could impact healthy pregnancies later on, such as low blood iron, high blood pressure, and infections.
